PowerMail 4.1.2 (Mac OS 8-9.2),
Appleworks 6.2.7 (actual compact disc) (for Mac OS-X, Mac OS 8.1 or
later) purchased June 25, 2003

yes, as above...

Yep am aware of the non-Apple extensions.

I should add am using PhotoShop 7, and Quark 5.1 as well..

Give you an example:
I took the digest of the Mac Canada list today and saved it to the desktop.
I then decided I would take your reply, and keep it as an Appleworks file.
So from the Powermail file on the desktop I opened the message as a word
processing document
and tidied it up removing extraneous bits here and there.
Saved it as an Appleworks file, on the desktop...easier to use there than in
a file folder I use for such items. It shall go into the file folder
afterwards..

After saving the file, went to exit Appleworks. Nothing happened. The
mouse cursor continued to move however
nothing else would work when I clicked on the area with the mouse.
THis has happened both with Appleworks as noted and; also with Powermail,
say after writing an e-mail,
off-line as I am doing now...
I use an outboard Macally LED mouse, whoever designed the click push move
rectangles on the computer
that are called mouse controllers should be shot.

So, now what?

Command Apple key power button does nothing...nyet.

However Apple key option and esc gets me the screen query "do you want to
quit the finder)
to which respond yes; then I get another query as to what I then wish to
do including shutdown, restart etc
The reply is shut down; which doesn't happen until the finder shutsdown.
Sometime it does it smartly; other times have seen it take as long as 60
minutes to shut down...
Usually the screen goes dark first though...30 minute time...
The ONLY way I can get the iBook to shut down is push the power button.

And then I usually wait five minutes, before restarting...

The 512 MB S0-DIMMwas installed at time of purchase, was the last proper
chip in stock;
dealer obtained more the following week..

As you've noted, I prefer OS9.2 actually 8.6 was pretty good too...

One thing I have considered is doing a complete wipe of the hard drive,
clean install.

Had to do this with the windows pc numerous times;
never thought the Mac would require same.

I use my Mac for a very limited range of items...
word processing in Appleworks and Quark 5.01 is a large part of the
time, web browsing,
there is some Photoshop work done, Have a Canon G2 digital from which
images are loaded
directly and then tidied up.

As noted prior, I do tend to give off entirely negative responses to all
things mechanical. I am the
one that destroys the one and only circular saw in the shop which has
always worked under everybody
else'; ...I am the one who causes the large ceiling light to blow as I
walk beside it, and after the bulb is replaced, it is
OK until I walk into the room a second time...

You get the drift....<g>
