Subject: Re: WTB Airport 802.11b card

Hello all, I'm looking for an Airport 802.11b card for my PowerBook G3
Pismo.

I have been looking for a 802.11b card for an old iBook and discovered that the price of the cards has gone through the roof since Apple discontinued them (I saw one go for $180 on Ebay).

Anyhow the point of this email is that USB and PC card 802.11b
adapters are pretty reasonably priced new ($60-100). If you can't
find a used card you might try one of these.

I think the price spike is a temporary aberration caused by some rumours (since I've got three lined up for ~$90 CAD). Once people realise that supply isn't going to disappear they'll be kicking themselves (you can tell there are a *lot* of people on eBay who have supplies of Airport cards at normal prices that are taking advantage of this situation). In all my years of playing with computers I can't remember a situation like this that lasted. Usually prices drop back down when people come to their senses. There's little to justify dropping that much on a wireless card when you can get a PC(MCIA) card that does the exact same thing for roughly 1/3 the price + $30 CAD cost of ioXperts drivers.

And, if you're wanting to hook your desktop up to a wireless network there's the option (better IMNSHO) of an ethernet-based bridge for <$100.
