If you are looking for a light and cheap Mac with no upgrade options the mini-mac is an option, but I am not at all sure how the market is going to respond to this option, only time will tell.

If you are looking for a cheap and functional computer that doesn't have to be a Mac, the mini-mac is not all that competitive, and it lacks a track record, cooling may be a problem.

Well, cooling came to my mind too but I'm not sure that overheating has been a Mac problem in the past. I know, as everyone does, that Jobs has had a thing for fans since day 1 almost. Yet even in this new mini, there doesn't even seem to be a lot of room for a passive heatsink. Maybe the case allows some transfer through it, as this is the new thing for media pcs. The new Sony even has an open top to allow the heat an escape route.
Now that you've mentioned it, I wonder if the HD is a high rpm unit. Is it a laptop drive? Ultra ATA is 33 mbps burst speed so maybe it has enough guts for video transfer, it would have to have that, I think.

Judging from the activity on the Apple site, whether it is from Itunes or from the Mini mac, there is NOTHING on the pc side to match this new kid on the block. It has to be the price point. Less than a grand for a Mac? Wow! Add the phone help to the price, 90 days I think it said, and you've got a very daring move on Apple's part. They are kind of riding the crest, in much the same way as Chrysler is with their new car offerings. (A stretch maybe but I think the point is there.) Ipod, Itunes and now the Mini mac, even giving a few digs to pcs in the product description of the mini, all of this when ms is floundering with longhorn and the problems with explorer. Looks like a seachange from here.
