Hi,
Thank you !
Unfortunately, it won't boot from CD but I did clean install from the CD
and the problem with the screen went away.

George,
You need either the particular 9.x install CD for that iBook or a
retail 9.x version install CD.
Plug in the AC power, turn on the iBook, insert the proper OS 9
install CD, reboot holding down the C key to get it to boot from
the install CD.
You should see a "Utilities" folder on the CD when booted. Open it
and run "Drive Setup" to erase and format the drive the way you
want, but make sure HFS+ (extended) is selected. (You can partition
at this point if you want.)
You may also see a folder for "ibook firmware update". Open it and
follow the directions, otherwise check Apple's support/download
section for it. Such as:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75128
or
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=88007
but you may have to do the 9.x System install first.
Do the Mac OS install to the new formatted drive, whatever you
might have called it, and check out any "Options" during the
install setup.
If that all works, re-boot (restart) and hopefully your new install
drive will be working.
Then run the "Software Update" (Control Panel) and see what you
might need. Run it again after each "install" and restart. Some
updates rely on previous installed software. Think building blocks. ;)
Hopefully with all that done, your "wakeup" problem may even be
resolved. ;)

Hi,
I just got a iBook G3/300 from a friend.
It runs fine but of course battery won't hold the charge.
I have two problems with it
1. I want to format its HD and install Mac OS 9.1 but I can't do
it from Mac OS 9.1 cd - why ?
2. When you close the lid when on the screen won't come back but
computer still works - is it a setup thing ?
Thanks,
George
