It is my understanding that if you buy "name brand" ram it should be packaged as such.

Apparently, there are a finite number of companies manufacturing the chips used for ram.

I would pay a modest premium for "brand name" but will fall back on price and service to guide my purchasing decisions.

I may try Canada Ram, but, so far I am pleased with the quality and service I am getting from Ram Direct.

As far as price is concerned, go to http;//www.xe.com and learn what the current exchange rate is. Then convert your prospective purchase into Canadian $. I believe you will find that there is good savings to be had (especially for multiple purchases).

You can even find Ram Direct selling on ebay. There you can probably find what you're looking for at an even better deal. Gotta look to find the best prices anywhere you go.

My 2¢ worth.

I've been following this mailling for a few days now...

RAM Direct is not canadian, so the price is in US$, which look interesting at first, but is not! :)

Historucally, I've bought so far my memory directly from Crucial. I bought them, last year a 512meg module for my PB12" and it cost me just under 200$ including shipping, custom, etc.

If their 1gig module were not that expensive at that time, I would have bought the 1gig!

About Canada RAM, they don't always say which company's module they sold, are they generic RAM?

I gave up on Canadian retailers for mac RAM.

The 2 places I would recommend are Ram Direct ( http:// www.ramdirect.com/ ) and Other World Computing ( http:// www.otherworldcomputing.com/ ).

I have used Ram Direct but not OWC. I have read good things about them (OWC) from other list members, I have personal experience with Ram Direct. Otherwise not knowing where you live in Canada I couldn't point you in the direction of a retailer that you could purchase from.

I have been having a lot of trouble with my PB recently in that it has been grinding to a halt for some processing that is normally quite minor.

I have decided to put some more RAM in to see if that makes any difference - can anybody recommend any good Canadian RAM retailers ?
