In OS X, using the About This Mac..., you'll need to click on the
More Info... box or run "System Profiler" (Utilities) to get the
detailed info you need if you you haven't do so already.
If you need the actual Machine ID: info that used to be displayed,
you'll probably need to run "Apple System Profiler" (Apple Menu
Items) when in Classic mode or booted in OS 9.

I have the latest copy of Mactracker, the database of the various Macs

iMacs I've just bought on eBay figuring ram/hard drive and CDRx won't be a
true answer on an older machine. Using About This Mac on my current iMac/SL
and running through all the information, I'm not finding anything that is
telling me what my 'Machine ID' is for this model. Could someone tell me
where to find it so that I can be prepared for the new arrival? It should
be 'PowerMac2,1' for this iMac -- Firmware is up-to-date with Boot ROM
Version 4.1.9f1.
Thanks,
