If he wants a 56k shared, it's easy. Use crossover cabling, make sure each machine has TCP/IP and MS Client. Once they see each other on the network, set up a prog like Sygate, if the machine with the modem doesn't have ICS. It's a littie trickier with a cable modem or DSL, as it likely will involve 2 NIC's which can be a PITA to set up.
