Go to http://www.microsoft.com/ie and download
either ie5setup.exe or ie6setup.exe IE 5.5 is a bit
down the page on the right side.

Save the file to c:\ie5 or c:\ie6 then click Start,
Run then copy and paste the appropriate line from
below. You must include the quotes for this to work!!!

"C:\ie6\ie6setup.exe" /c:"ie6wzd.exe /d /s:""#E"

"C:\ie5\ie5setup.exe" /c:"ie5wzd.exe /d /s:""#E"

Go through the prompts like you're going to install
and you'll get a box with checkboxes for each
supported version of Windows. You'll then be prompted
for where you want to save the files.

There is one small "gotcha" with doing this. A few
times while it's downloading, a box will popup asking
if you want to "install" something. Check the check
box and click Yes. It will not actually install!
If you _don't_ check the box and click Yes then that
component will not download.

After it's done you can burn the folder to CD-R and
have an Internet Explorer intaller CD. :) I don't
know if it works with IE 5.02, not going to try
becaue I have no reason to use that verion and
don't know anyone who does. 5.5 is the last that
works on Win95 and I think it tops out with Win2K.
WinXP comes with IE6 (that command will download
IE6 SP2) which also works with Win98 and newer,
including Windows NT4.

If you don't have broadband, it's probably a good
idea just to download for the version of Windows
you're running. I'm a glutton for punishment so
I'm grabbing the whole lot in one go over a 56K
modem. (Fortunately I just got an Actiontec PCI
modem that is _not_ a "winmodem"! Has the Lucent
'Venus' chipset.)
