Thanks for your reply! It worked! I actually already had the whole setup configured exactly as you suggested (static IP) from before, but I decided to give it another go anyway. The only difference, that I'm aware of, between this time and the last attempt was the addition of a wireless connection between the Mac and the network switch. I don't see how that could have made any difference, so it must have been a tweak in the network settings somewhere, like you said.
Another happy Mike is always good to see.
I use nix for routing and netatalk, the pc's work straight off wheather static or dhcp. The Macs have always been a little stranger when it comes to dhcp.
Sometimes the connection would work but for some reason it would just drop out, other times I'd just get a 255.255.0.0 subnet at startup and then have to reboot to find a in range IP. In the end I looked at my 68k macs, all running MacTPC and therefore static addresses with never a problem so in the end I made all macs static addresses.
This does allow a bit more flexability for my setup anyway and the macs don't sit doing nothing for 5 minutes when disconnected from the lan.
Glad you fixed it.
Cheers
