(Treat the following with care! I subscribe to Classic Posts too. I asked if
The Macintosh Bible 6th Edition 1996 edition was wrong in one respect and
received an email from "the pickle" in person to say that it was.)

The Macintosh Bible 6th edition says:
"If your using System 7.1, make sure you have the 3.0 System Update, which
has been the latest update for nearly a year as of this writing, so it's
reasonably safe to assume it's the last one."

"In between major system upgrades. Apple released minor updates to fix bugs
and to run new software. For System 7.0, these updates were called Tune-Ups;
for System 7.1 bug fixes were called Hardware or Sytem Updates. and changes
for new hardware came in Enablers."

My thoughts are still to dump the old System disks and download a new 7.1
from Apple

Only 4 Mb of RAM! I used to use a machine that had 2Mb and a Hewlett Packard
printer.Some thoughts on saving memory:
1) Make sure Virtual Memory is switched on. It isn't real memory - it's
hard disk space that's used as temporary memory
2) Download a copy of Connectix's RAM Doubler
3) More fonts installed = more memory used
4) Save before printing. It puts a document onto the hard drive and out of
memory
5) A monitor which is switched to Black and White rather than Colour saves a
small amount of memory

Finally, does the LC III definitely use 72 pin Simms? It only has one RAM
slot which must be empty. My LC used 30 pin Simms.
