I have one of the adaptors you mentioned but it will only allow me to select 640x480 @ 
256,thousands or millions of colours, I will try a standard apple 14" monitor and see 
if i get any result.

You should be able to get at least 800*600 out of your 7500/100 display.
We have a 7500/100 with standard 14" apple display and we get 832*600
with no problem.
If you wish to switch resolution get yourself a mac to vga adaptor (with
switches) which you can normally find on ebay fo around a tenner or buy
new from cancom for �20+vat and you'll also save a pci card.
