John,

I have this Mac (G3 beige desktop) and my son's PC both connected to ADSL
via a Netgear DG814 DSL Internet Gateway Router/Modem (about 120 from
Dabs).

The modem/router plugs into the phone and then I have an ethernet cable
between the modem/router and each computer. So far everything is fine, an
always on connection, and we both surf the net at the same time.

The only snag is that the router acts as a gateway and assigns an IP address
to each computer, the result is that that 99% of the time there is not a
problem but I cannot get my son's computer to play internet games like Age
of Empires on MSN Zone nor can I get live football commentary from my team's
website. I think these two problems can be sorted out with
'port-forwarding' but I haven't been able to work out how to do that yet.
