In the menu bar, go to EDIT, select VIEW OPTIONS and deselect GENRE ! Who needs genre references on one's personal music library anyway - don't you KNOW what the music is??!!
Alternatively just click on the genre field of any individual track and when it comes up highlighted, rename it in the the traditional Mac manner.
