No, that doesn't seem to be it - I've downloaded it again and waited ages and it's definitely fully-downloaded.

I think the Quick Time Pro is the most likely answer.

Yes, I found that one. However, that option is greyed-out..... All that's active in that menu is 'About QuickTime plug-in'; 'Plug-in settings'; and 'Connection Speed'.

Is there perhaps a 'disable Save' flag that can be set on a QT movie?
