You may need to set permissions for the Firewire Drive under it's "get info" settings.

an easier alternative might be to log on to the Lombard from the 12" and pull the files off onto the Lacie directly rather than trying to put them the other way around.

Hello the List!

I have a 12" Powerbook with an external LaCie Firewire drive. My daughter also has a Powerbook, a Lombard, and the other day we started hearing head-slapping from the disk drive after it had been on for a couple of hours. My first thought was to get her existing stuff safe, and I decided that the bast way would be for her to log into my machine from hers (using 'Connect to Server') and then drop her Home folders onto a folder on the Firewire drive. Obviously, with a Lombard she can't connect to the Lacie direct, and we don't have a Firewire PC card available.

Both machines are running OS 10.2.8. Mine is networked (ethernet) into a hub; my daughter's has a wireless PC card and uses the IOXperts driver for it. The 'Connect to Server' went OK, but after logging into my PB remotely the only resources shown were the main HD on my PB; my Home folder; and a CD that happened to be in the CD drive. No sight of the Firewire drives. I've checked a few books (David Pogue's in particular) but can't find any mention of how to get the external drives to be shared. Is this not possible?
