When I plug it via the FireWire socket System Profiler doesn't show anything. When I plug it via the USB socket it shows up but its not mounted on the desktop & i can't save things to it.
I've used a Maxtor drive on someone else's G4 but it didn't need a driver installed. Have you run Disk Utility and, if necessary, initialised the drive?
Brilliant! That worked. I had to initialise it first. Everything work fine now.
