Walter,

I am very pleased to hear this. I was going to say something at the time as they were extremely good about my son's iBook which was out of warranty when the logic board failed. This predated Apple's admission that there was a problem and we fully expected it to end in tears. They charged me for a hard drive because we needed to salvage the contents but they copied everything across and sent the iBook away and we had it back fully functional in less than a week. No cost. Full marks I reckon!

Hello again, guys,

back on Monday I posted about a tale of woe.

I am now delighted to be able to report back and say that Scotsys have now taken generous steps with regard to my problem.

I'm getting my beloved iMac back on Monday, safe and well.

As far as I am concerned, I can now say that Scotsys have dealt with me in a fair and responsible way. I am therefore in the happy position of being able to withdraw my previous statement and heartily recommend them as a reliable Apple dealer.

For the record, the fault turned out to be a blown capacitor in the Power Video Board (that was the puff of smoke we saw!). Just to remind those who may ever experience a similar problem: the symptoms were a startup freeze with the power button green light on, a grey screen and no hard drive spin-up. In its terminal phase, the computer would also shut itself off of its own accord. If you ever come across an intermittent problem of this nature, take action immediately.

Regards,
Walter
