In the instance of refurbs and 2nd hand kit I prefer suppliers with a shop front and staff to confront should the need arise as opposed to putting my cash into a URL and delivery firm (this is after a terrible experience with NEW kit from apple and subsequent dealings with applecare).
I'm sorry you had a bad experience but I doubt there's any company that hasn't screwed up sometimes. I can only say that I've bought about half-a-dozen Macs and a couple of iPods from the Apple refurb store over the last two or three years (some of which were brand new, discontinued items rather than refurbs). I've never been less than happy with what I bought. In addition refurbs come with a money-back guarantee.
