I'm still struggling with my daughter's 'Lombard with the dead ethernet port'. We've been unable to find an ethernet card that is known to work in the PC card slot, so now we're considering alternatives. One of these is a wifi solution - a wifi base station connected to the TeleWest modem, and a suitable wifi card in the Lombard PC card slot with drivers from IOXperts. However, before I go out & buy a base station I just want to check that this will work with a cable modem. As I understand it, there's an ethernet port on the cable modem to which we would connect the wifi basestation. Should we allow the base station to pick up an ip address from the cable modem? Or give the base station a static IP address on the same network? The laptop can use DHCP, of course. Has anyone got any experience of doing this with a cable modem?
