Yes, it was this article that reminded me about OpenOffice. Re-reading
it, I'm beginning to think that the sorts of documents I deal with (short
letters, quotes/invoices and support documents with plenty of
screenshots) are a bit of a special case - AppleWorks' budget DTP tools
work quite well for the latter and its word processing abilities are good
enough for the rest. Of course, it gets more difficult to import/export
once you start dealing with loads of graphics and tables.

So things like word count don't interest me....and I can't believe that
there's barely a mention of ThinkFree's sluggishness in the review. They
must have been using a dual 2GHz G5 :-) Another problem I had (not
mentioned in the review) was that I couldn't share Thinkfree Write files
between OS9 and OSX versions of the application - the OS9 application is
still version 1.7 and cannot handle the newer features. So you end up
having to export to Microsoft Word format to go between old and new Mac
platforms, and use Thinkfree Write format to guarantee the same
appearance between Mac and Windows platforms. Which is completely the
wrong way around and makes my head hurt!

I'll take a look at Mellel...
