Not to say that others haven't had genuine problems, but I do wonder whether this isn't another example of a tech getting a bad rep because the only people who discuss it at length are those for whom it isn't working.
I've never had a single problem with either of my La Cie pocket drives, or my La Cie desktop external drive. My wife's never had any issues with either her iPod or one of the aforementioned drives, my video capture device has always connected without hassles (although it would be nice it it were as reliable at getting decent quality on the video side!), and the only issues I've had with my iSight have been while using some 3rd party shareware that has only recently added iSight support. The macs involved have been a sawtooth G4, a 700MHz iBook and a dual-2GHz G5
I will echo the comments of one of the other posters about making sure you use decent cables though. And make sure you treat your equipment well - I know someone who managed the 'plug the cable in upside down' trick, and hence always look before I plug. But then, my wife and I both have engineering degrees, and harbour a healthy cynicism about manufacturers claims as to how much shabby treatment their gadgets can take!
Cheers, Christopher.
