Here is a link to an Easter Egg (programmer's surprise) that will allow you
to save your project as a .dmg file or use an external DVD Writer. How legal
it is, is another point but there have been varying degrees of success. Let
us know how you get on

Subject: External DVD Writer & iDVD - Workrounds?

Does anyone know any workrounds for getting a third party external DVD
writer to work with iDVD? System is a PB12", iDVD 4, OS 10.3.4.

I don't actually have an external DVD writer yet, but I've been looking
at the LaCie d2 drive - I already LaCie D2 FireWire drives. I also have
just acquired a MiniDV camcorder, and therefore have a source of
material that I hope work on with iMovie and therefore ultimately iDVD.
Or I could buy a bundled copy of Toast 6 (?) with the LaCie drive; is
that a viable alternative?

I've never looked at this area at all, so I'm also unclear as the the
difference between the different DVD write formats: -R and +R, is that
right? Finally, on the assumption that I've got some amount of edited
footage that I want to share with family & friends, if I don't burn it
to DVD what other options do people use? I've read something about
'Video CD'? Is that worth looking at?

I'm talking about 5 or 10 minute 'home movies', not semi-pro work, so
perhaps I'm being over-ambitious thinking about DVDs at this stage....
