At the risk of explaining the obvious:

Go to <http://www.google.com/>, click 'Preferences', then adjust to suit
(mine are any language, no filters, 30 reults to a page). Save them.

Now <http://www.google.com/advanced_search?hl=en> will use these preferences.

Repeat for <http://www.google.co.uk/advanced_search?hl=en> (_new_ set of
preferences needed) and there's a button at the top of the results page for
'UK only', which can help.

And Mac-specific Googles are at <http://www.google.com/mac.html>.
