For the great majority yes but where do you get Dell's own motherboards if Dell were to go mammaries skyward? You be lucky to be able to adapt a generic board to fit in those very non-standard cases. This applies to various manufacturers. Apple is only guilty of using proprietry motherboards (like Dell), a non-mainstream CPU (available elsewhere, made by IBM) and cases.
