on a similar note, I have a G4 at home, runs 9.1 happily via an old 19" beast of a monitor at something silly like 74.9 Hz refresh rate. OS X won't lock on to the monitor, despite the fact that OS 9 does. (stock ATI video card).
Is there any way to force it to use a particular size and refresh rate
that it isn't offering in the displays system preference thing? I have 2
monitors so can mirror the displays and faff with it.
I highly recommend SwitchRes, from http://www.madrau.com/
For several years it was the only way I could reach 1280x1024 on my 15" monitor - can't remember which card/OS combination that was under, but I've run the utility in both it's OS 9 and OS X variants.
