Since the iBook is not supposed to be as good as the Powerbook, they've got to leave some space between the two ranges, although in fact there's now an enormous amount of overlap. Yes, the PB probably is faster and has advantages, but is also a lot more expensive - compare the new 14" Combodrive iBook (900) with the lower of the 15" PBs (1400?). The PB is better, yes, but 500 better? Think back to the original iBook; it was clearly a very different machine from the Powerbook of the day (Wallstreet? Lombard?). Now they are every similar. So we've seen a considerable enhancement of iBook specs over the last few years.
Having said that, the new iBook prices are very low. The new 12" is a whole load of laptop for 750 - I paid nearly double that for my 12" PB less than 18 months ago - and the new mid-range 14" is better specified today at 900 than my wife's 1.2 Ghz machine for which she paid over 1000 in June. So even if they can't improve the specs by that much they're certainly squeezing the price.
But overall I think they're hoping that the focus this christmas season will be on the new iMac, and of course the continuing iPod juggernaut.

Hello,
Is anyone else less than impressed with Apple's new offerings?
