The audio input on Performa 5400 is at line input level. The input works fine with a mono Plaintalk microphone. I can record this input to two channels on the Mac without problem. This indicates -- to me anyway--that electrically everything is ok. I'm aware that the plaintalk mic plug is a special and picks-up 5 volts to supply to power the pre-amp in the mic.
However when I plug a line source in using an ordinary stereo plug it doesn't work at all. No input is detected. I wish to transfer my LPs--yes I was there and I do remember the 60s--to the Mac and hence to CD. Grateful for comments or advice as to how to solve this audio problem.
