Not sure if this is an issue for list members but some time ago when .Mac introduced the new package for members they included aliases which were slightly difficult to get working in Mail. There were a few work rounds mentioned over a period of time and by far the easiest which I adopted was the one which said to open an IMAP account and put the various addresses in the SMTP box in the set up with a comma separation. Which works beautifully, in the sense that SMTP aliases work in a very simple and uncomplicated way. However, I am not sure IMAP is a good idea for a shared broadband connection with occasional disconnection either by closing the application or problems with the network requiring maintenance etc. I also have POP accounts with other providers and I am not sure mixing POP and IMAP is very clever. I would make the POP accounts (BTConnect) IMAP as well if I thought it would help but I don't see BT offering a way to do this.

After that long preamble, for which I apologize, my question is: Does anyone know why the same method of set up of the SMTP addresses does not apparently work with either a POP account or a .Mac account and can anyone explain the subtle difference between a .Mac account and an IMAP account?

Thanks.

Drew
