I would recommend a product called ChronoSync. It costs about US$30.
Everytime you get the laptop back to base, connect the two either with a
wire/wireless network or firewire cable, and launch this programme. It then
can be used to update as many or as few filesa nd directories, choosing
either the newere files, or those from the desktop, or the laptop as you
prefer. I find it a great ay of keeping everything up to date.
