Hi Jon
USB ADSL modems for Macs are not the best way to go and you may be
altogether better off by switching to an ethernet based connection as you
are tempted.

I trust that you have shut down and started again since installing the new
driver.
Can you delete the config, restart and install again - (thinking aloud).

Sorry I cant offer much. I would get the ADSL router modem.
