It beats me why no-one ever bridged the two too, it can't be that hard they are both high-speed serial, there's not really much that could differ apart from timing and signal encoding. Run one into an FireWire chip, buffer the throughput and put it out through a USB chip. Someone's gotta be able to do that surely...
