While I was at the Meadowhall Applestore opening, I was able to check out a couple of Mac Minis that were set up. Both were the new higher spec - 1.5 Ghz CPU, 64 Mb video ram, and (I believe) a 5400 rpm HD. Certianly the HD was 80 Gbyte. These were the middle model - the higher CPU but not with the Superdrive.

I had a chat about it with one of the staff, and he genuinely seemed not to know about the secret spec change - his first reaction was to assume that they'd put out the wrong information cards. I told him what I knew about the story, and then we got on to which version they had for sale there. He said he didn't know, of course, but he did say something interesting: some days earlier it had been him who had set up one of the Minis that was on display, and he had simply grabbed a Mini from the sales stock; there was no special stock for display purposes.
