I've probably just been lucky with the Maxtors I've inherited so far.
When actually buying hard drives, I do tend to go for the Seagate ones.

The only comfort *I* take from that is that they will have had to
stop using those drives by the time I comer to buying a new Mac. I'm
maybe being a little harsh here but over the last 12 months Maxtor
had several notable QA issues - which eventually resulted in the
company falling flat on it's face and having to be scraped up by
Seagate. I\d be way more nervous about losing data on a Maxtor drive.
I'm not a big fan of Hitachi either but then that's mostly because
their drives are a little behind Seagate's in technology.
