The current version of OpenOffice.org for the Mac is a port (copy with changes
specific to a particular operating system) based on the UNIX version.  Thus
it requires the use of a secondary windowing system known as X11.  There is a 
group working to continue the port so that it uses the native (Aqua) windowing 
system of
MacOSX.  This is not ready for usage by the general public as there are major 
problems
with it.
