It's already february and i just started a build of OOo native !
Great !
I had a talk (on irc) with ericb last weekend and then he updated
the aquabuild page on the wiki :
i started the build and everything was ok !
excepted the time : 36 hours !!!! (i dedicated an old [EMAIL PROTECTED] and
256Mb of Ram...) --> i'll have to find another solution : an
external disk with 10.4 and OOo connected to a faster machine
If you can get ahold of some extra RAM, you may find an improvement
in speed.
Please note that Mac OS X 10.4 has a minimum requirement of 256MB of
RAM, 512MB is a minimum recommended, with as much as you can get
ahold of/afford the best option. That would be a machine that would
work well for running testtool for several days. For testtool getting
a faster machine doesn't significantly improve the time it takes for
the tests to run.
With the next release Mac OS X 10.3 support will be dropped.
Also you don't always need to do a full build, there are ways to only
build the modules that you have changed. For example:
1. Do some changes
2. make sure that you have sourced the environment.
3. in the module that you have changed do a
build
deliver
Repeat for all dependent modules. ( I don't knwo what they are, but
someone else will be able to help.)
4. in the instsetoo_native do a
build
5. You should now have an updated build
I started to test and it is still very unstable, but ericb told me
that he will send me (a lot of) patches still not in aquavcl01
I have some questions about patches :
how do i need to get organized to work with you ?
when i'll modify code on my disk :
- i need to keep an original version of the code to generate a
patch ? How do i rename the original file ?
You can do a patch based on what is in cvs via the "cvs diff -u ..."
command. [... = some other stuff]
You can also rename the files and run the "diff -u ..." command.
Checkout the "man diff" command for more information.
- when a cvs checkout will be needed, my modified files will be
overwritten ?
Try doing a cvs update instead, then the files will be patched. If
there is a conflict with the patching process, you will be asked to
resolve the conflict.
- how do i generate a "good" patch, that can be used by others
porters ? (1 patch for each modified file ?...)
I found only that page about that on the wiki : http://
wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Contributing_Patches but it
doesn't answer to my questions.
When you find out this information, you are more than welcome to
update the wiki to make it easier for the next person to understand
the process.
Shaun
