As I alway recommend to testers: Create/use a seperate user (like
"test") for installing test versions and doing tests. This is a fast and
simple way to be sure nothing gets confused.
And it it also a good way to be sure everything in user dir installs the
right way.

But a more "secure" installation using your patch is surely a good idea
when public testing versions come along because as we know, people
normaly tend to don't take themselves five Minutes before installation
to read installation hints but easyly have half an hour to write
complaints after damage is done ;-)
