Hi,
I am 19yrs old and from England, and would love to help on this project,
any kind of graphic work, or HCI design i would be honored to help any way i
can.
Thanks for your interest in OpenOffice.org, mainly Mac OS X porting
project, and be welcome :-)
Disclaimer : I have no perfect answer for you, but I'll try to expain
the problem. But since you are not the only one to ask, I'll do a common
answer.
1) OpenOffice.org design is thought for all platforms, and we have to
respect that ( but some changes are allowed )
2) I know OpenOffice.org was thought under Windows, and this is
completely bad for Mac OS X port (I'm diplomat here)
3) I'd suggest you to join the art project (
http://marketing.openoffice.org/art/ ) first, and see what you can do.
The relevant mailing list is : [EMAIL PROTECTED] (you have
to subscribe too)
4) The Aqua look is possible using Native Widget framework (means
colors, controls look, etc ).
Note about the For the UI ( the feel) : with current OpenOffice.org
code, it will be only partially available. For complete UI compliance,
deep changes in the code are mandatory.
5) Mac people have not been represented adequately in the past in the
project, but things change
6) What we want to do MUST be very precisely defined : else, nothing
will change
7) We must organize us.
I'll to be more precise with an example : I perfectly know our iconset
is not Aqua compliant, and a great thing would be to create one Mac OS X
dedicated. I know some people created iconset more Aqua compliant, but
under GPL license, and we can't use it.
So we must must create a new one because of license issues.
Maybe create an iconset is more what you expect ? If so, be carefull,
this is a huge work, and very probably not a one people only job, but a
Team work.
What I propose : as soon as possible (means today or maybe tomorrow),
I'll contact Stella Schultze, and see with her more precisly if
something is possible, how proceeed, what is the best, and if we can
define a serious todolist.
Stay tuned.
Eric Bachard
P.S. : constructive opinions and suggestions are very welcome :-)
Regards,
*Mark.*
