First, AFAIK, Maho does build milestones only, and
[EMAIL PROTECTED] is the place for such announces. The
traffic is really not important, and the builds follow ~ the
milestones announcements (just some days of delays sometimes).
Having looked at the archives, I'd rather not subscribe to this list.
Second, for the snapshots, it was decided to not post the links on
[EMAIL PROTECTED], since we provide hacked builds most of the time.
But milestones aren't hacked.
Instead, it was decided to provide them on IRC only. Please correct
me if I'm wrong.
I don't remember this. I remember Maho agreeing to post to both
lists. IRC is not suitable for an announcement in my view: the people
most likely to benefit from these builds are least likely to be on IRC.
MacOS X users. I am sure that I am not the only non-developer who
tests the various snapshots.
If people ask for snapshots publicated on the list, I completely
agree, but I'm not sure it will be accepted (we discussed the point
several times already during IRC meetings).
Last, I do provide regular snapshots with last cws ( including
Leopard compatibility I'm testing since some times, and soon other
goodies), but since they are unofficial and happily hacked
snapshots, I prefer provide the link off list, and on demand.
I can understand this but I think Maho's builds are different: they
are milestones and not hacks. And, although they are no different to
what we would get if we all the built the various milestones
ourselves, they do remove this entry barrier to the project. However,
I have been immensely impressed by the progress of the recent builds.
I do agree that the e-mails should not flood this list as they are of
little interest to active developers. But I believe they are great
interest to testers and possible future developers.
