It is a bug that has been with us for at least 5 years, but it doesn't
seem important enough to fix properly because there is a sort of
workaround (or maybe too much work would be involved to do a proper fix
when the problem really lies in the NFS v3 protocol. The IO read/write
error systematically causes data loss, resulting in a 0 byte file
length. The problem is allegedly less prevalent with NFS v4.
