Hi,
The quicklook plugin can be seen in action in 3 different places:
1. the icon of ODF files
2. right-click ODF files and choose QuickLook from the context menu
3. cover flow mode in finder
Here is my feedback:
1. works pretty well, no problems at all
Noticed
2. due to the very low resolution of the thumbnails stored in ODF files (256 pixels or less) the preview looks especially ugly when being
scaled, choosing e.g. full screen mode is not useful at all. I would suggest limiting the scaling factor to twice of the original image size
and use the rest of the display area for showing some meta info or at least file name, size and date.
More precisely ?
3. in cover flow the transparent background of the thumbnails makes the content unreadable. a white background should be used when displaying
the thumbnails in this mode. if this mode cannot be detected, a white background should be used in all of the scenarios.
Yes, but I have no idea on how change that. Do you have more info ?
Note that no special activities like dealing with qlmanage etc. is required, just install the build provided by eric and start it once.
Indeed, but to be sure, or when you have several versions installed
(like me) it is very usefull.
The point I wanted to show using qlmanage, is : it is possible to show
.sxi .sxw using it a better way using qlmanage than the plugin does.
And I'm really divided between validate the cws or add some change
allowing to use Apple ql generator instead.
What do you suggest ?
a) validate the cws and create a second one to improve the thing
b) change now, but take the risk to not see the plugin in 3.0 ?
Note that ODT files are handled by Mac OS X in a much better way (i.e. allowing for full text browsing instead only using a single thumbnail)
and are excluded from Florians implementation. So testing of this plugin is only useful for the other file types (ods, odp, etc.)
Not only .odt, but .sxc and .sxw too ( I tested)
Last but not least: thanks a lot for your feedback !
Regards,
Eric
