FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Fourth World Ships WebMerge 2.3 LOS ANGELES, California - 11 December, 2003 Fourth World today released 4W WebMerge 2.3, an upgrade to its popular tool for Mac OS and Windows that generates static Web pages from database or spreadsheet data. The new version provides a convenient TagMaker utility for point-and-click tag writing, search-and-replace options in field tags, preset delimiters for parsing affiliate program data feeds, a debugger tool, and other new features. WebMerge works with any database or spreadsheet that exports in tab-delimited, merge, or other tabular formats, including FileMaker Pro, Microsoft Access, and AppleWorks. Using simple tags in template pages created with any HTML authoring tool, WebMerge makes a new page from the data in each record of the exported file. WebMerge can also create index pages with links to each of the detail pages. Generated pages can be hosted on any Web server without the need for a specialized database hosting solution. New features in WebMerge 2.3 include: - A New Replace attribute for the WM-Field tag lets you perform multiple search-and replace operations on field data before it's inserted into the page. - The TagMaker window lets you construct WebMerge tags with your field names quickly and easily with a point-and-click interface. Great for learning to write WebMerge tags, and fast enough to be valuable for experienced users. Tags can be easily copied for pasting into your favorite HTML authoring program. - The Debugger window lets you step through WebMerge's generation process to help diagnose errors in your templates. - Plug-In Tools architecture allows third parties to write custom utilities that run within WebMerge, and allows Fourth World to extend the product between releases. The Debugger and TagMaker tools use this new architecture. - New preset delimiters make it easier to parse many common affiliate program data feeds. "Testers really liked the new TagMaker tool," said Richard Gaskin, president of Fourth World Media Corporation. "With the other new features like on-the-fly field replacement and the Debugger this upgrade takes WebMerge to a new level of convenience." WebMerge 2.3 is available in a free download at the publisher's Web site: <http://www.fourthworld.com/products/webmerge/>. WebMerge can be used for free to generate up to 20 pages and has all features enabled with no time limit. Registered copies of WebMerge have no limit on the number of pages that can be generated. A single-user license costs US$79. Licenses can also be purchased in groups of five or ten at a substantial discount, making it even easier for Web developers to share their workflow solutions with their co-workers or clients. WebMerge requires Windows 95/98/NT/2000/ME/XP or Mac OS 8.0 or later, 64 MB total memory, and 5 MB disk space. Mac versions are available for both Mac OS X and Macintosh Classic.
