Trolltech releases Qt 3.3 Qt 3.3 supports new technologies such as the .NET framework, 64-bit processing, and IPv6 - complementing existing features and solutions to make Qt "future-proof" February 4, 2004 - Oslo, Norway - Trolltech�, the leader in multiplatform development frameworks, today announced the availability of Qt� 3.3. With the release of version 3.3, Qt gains support for a variety of new technologies, including Microsoft� .NET platform, 64-bit processing, and IPv6. In addition, Qt 3.3 adds support for the GNU C++ compiler on Windows (MinGW gcc). This makes it even easier to build multiplatform applications, as developers can use the same API - Qt - and the same compiler - gcc - on Unix, Linux, Mac, and Windows. Application developers can now access the power and performance of Qt and enjoy the unique freedom to develop on their OS of choice, while taking advantage of these new technologies. And because Qt applications share the same code base, a simple recompile is all it takes to follow the platform demands of the market place. Qt already provides solutions such as SOAP support, automatic GUI dialog conversion and support for migrating legacy MFC-based applications to Qt, allowing MFC and Qt code to co-exist during the porting process. In other words, existing solutions and the latest Qt 3.3 release represents an unrivalled technology solution. "Our core design goal is to make life easier for software developers, no matter which operating system they want to use," said Eirik Chambe-Eng, president of Trolltech. "By incorporating support for these new technologies, not only are we giving Qt developers the same robust performance and elegant API they are used to, but also ensuring their applications are available on the platforms the market demands." New Qt 3.3 features include: Qt-based applications can now both live inside, and coexist with, the .NET framework. Developers can either have Qt-based applications interoperate with .NET via ActiveX, or use a manual approach using Microsoft's managed extensions for C++. Both approaches allow developers to use the Qt toolkit while still ensuring their applications are .NET enabled. 64-bit processing support included in 3.3 enables superior performance for large amounts of data processing in areas such as advanced visualization in Qt-based applications. Qt applications built with 3.3 can now transparently support secure Internet Protocols v4 and v6, ensuring that Qt is a safe bet for the development of Internet-aware applications. Qt Script for Applications In addition, Qt Script for Applications (QSA) 1.1 has been released. QSA is Trolltech's add-on scripting toolkit for Qt-based applications. Several new features have been added, including: A utility framework, an extension library for giving scripters file access and shell execution possibilities, script project handling, and other useful classes making scripting even more powerful.
