Yes, since you (as a user-space file system developer) would "own" the
file system daemon, you can do whatever you choose to do. Remember
though that the MacFUSE kernel portion puts a timeout (20 seconds
currently) by default on how long the daemon takes to respond to a
file operation. If you involve a GUI dialog, you'll have to turn off
or adjust the timeout. Otherwise, you'll see an alert panel from the
kernel telling you that the daemon is not responding, and offering you
to eject the volume.
