The next generation of MacFUSE Core is around the corner. I released MacFUSE 0.4.0 on June 5, 2007--over 4 months ago. My original plan was to freeze the Tiger version rather quickly and work on a "next generation" version for Leopard. Well, that's what I did. Except recently, I went ahead and "back-ported" everything to Tiger. So there you have it: the forthcoming version of MacFUSE has enough feature additions, improvements, and fixes that its versioning will jump from 0.4.0 to... perhaps 1.0!
Of course, complex software is diabolical. I may have created new issues in the process. Between now and the time when there is an official MacFUSE release, I plan to do "sneak peek" releases of MacFUSE for both Leopard and Tiger. These releases will be versioned 0.9.x, and will be available from osxbook.com. I'd strongly recommend that anybody who develops atop MacFUSE start using these releases. This would help weed out transition issues, if any, and will of course help test the new MacFUSE. I'd also encourage early adopter users to try out these releases. Please note that if you are using third party software that depends on MacFUSE, that software may not work with these prerelease versions. If you write such third party software, well, please help ensure compatibility.
