Because some files could change without the operating system knowing  
about it.
Of course you could argue that even with fifos I would have to write  
to the
fifo externally to make it work. And if I was going to do that I could  
as
well use fsevents/kqueue. And you would be right :)

I guess I will have to work around this issue completely.
