You certainly could do that, but if you're talking about something non- experimental (that would go out to real users) I would advise against it unless your need is so dire and time critical that you need a custom binary right away. A new MacFUSE release should happen in the not-too-distant future. I can't promise any dates, but hopefully within the next 2 weeks.
