Ok so MacFuse itself doesn't include the filesystem for ftp. It also appears that no .pkg installers exist for curlftpfs. So as a user I would need to install MacFuse and then build curlftpfs from source. http://code.google.com/p/macfuse/wiki/HOWTO.
It appears that If I just want to test out curlftpfs it's much easier as a user to use macports to build it than to start With this MacFuse installer. Hopefully down the road you can add the capability to add the installation of filesystem binaries to the MacFuse system preference.
