Don't use "local" if you can avoid it.

If you truly want this to be fixed, first open a bug with Apple--
something to the effect that Finder does not treat MacFUSE volumes as
"remote" when it should.

Try dragging the mounted volume's icon on the Desktop to the "DEVICES"
section in the Finder sidebar. It should stick, even though it's
semantically incorrect.
