I believe I'm experiencing the same problem. Here's what dmesg says
after failed attempts to use sshfs:

MacFUSE: starting (version 2.1.5, Dec 19 2008, 05:56:11)
MacFUSE: force ejecting (no response from user space 5)
MacFUSE: force ejecting (no response from user space 5)

Both MacFUSE and sshfs were compiled on SL using Apple's gcc.

Strangely, I have another machine that was upgraded to SL, and the old
version of MacFUSE and sshfs that which was installed via MacPorts
(before the upgrade) still works.
