In simple terms:  MacFuse is a piece of software that lets you use
FUSE file system drivers on a Mac.  These drivers run in user mode
rather than kernel mode, i.e. they don't need administrative
privileges.  NTFS-3g is a FUSE file system driver that enables you to
mount a writable NTFS file system.
